Tawny Owl: Boris

We have an adult Tawny Owl with us this week - we have named him Boris. He was found tangled up in fishing wire by a kind lady who

managed to call the RSPCA who then brought him to us. The lady was using fishing wire to separate off her vegetable patch, but obviously did not realise the devastating effect it has on lots of our wildlife.

He is very quiet - standard Tawny! - but is surprisingly very calm and collected when in contact with us. Boris is eating as normal so will hopefully put on a little weight whilst he is in our care since he is a little on the thin side.

Boris has joined our Tawny Owls youngsters in our outside aviary. He is loving the new, larger space and let's hope he starts teaching the younger ones some tricks for when they are released. He needs to build up some muscle after his stint in our smaller, indoor run - this won't take too long and the chicks will definitely keep him on his toes.

They seem to all be getting on and there is enough space for them all to prevent any quarrels. They are nearly back in the wild where they belong, hopefully in the next few weeks we can open the doors.

OUTCOME:

Our Tawny Owl Boris - along with our 4 chicks - are making their way to the wild this week. We have opened the doors so they have the full use of the run for a while during the transition. Hopefully Boris will continue to help the younger ones once they have left. Here is some pictures of them just before the doors were opened.
