Article: Remembrance Day Australia

What an incredible tribute to the many donkeys, mules and 8 million horses that died faithfully supporting their respective armies. It was

created by around 650 soldiers standing in formation to resemble a horses head, neck and noseband. It is believed that the picture was taken by the officers of the Auxiliary Remount Dept No.326 in Camp Cody, New Mexico in 1915.

They were used to help carry food, water, ammunition and medical supplies to the men. Completely faithful right to the end. We will remember them.

1 million horses left the UK for the Western Front, but only 60,000 returned.
