Goose: Gertrude

Here's our poorly goose, Gertrude! She came into us absolutely covered in oil and diesel, to the point where she could barely move and her

breathing was laboured. We can't be sure how much has been ingested but we are doing all we can to keep her comfortable so she can pull through.

We have been giving her baths every day to slowly remove all the oil. We do not want to do it all at once as she works herself up into a state and gets very exhausted. She seems happier if we do a little bit each day and then let her rest for a while.

We managed to get all the oil off Gertrude over a period of a few days and we put her on antibiotics to make sure that if she had ingested anything, she was protected against any infections.

We released Gertrude on site as we had a few Geese visiting our ponds, so we were hoping she would join them and leave with them.

She couldn't wait to get on the water and joined the other group straight away. We went down every day to check on her and make sure she was still thriving, which she was! After about a week, the whole group left together for their new adventures.
