Pigeon: Geraldine

Not one of our prettiest of babies in at the moment, but we love her all the same! Little Geraldine came in to us after the nest was destroyed

and she was found on her own in the garden. Thankfully, she was found in time before she got too cold and without food. This poor little girl was so cold when she came to us, but after a stint in the incubator and some food she has perked up.

Pigeons get a bad rap, but we love them here. They are one of the most loving babies and always want attention. For Pigeon squabs, we feed by crop feeding. This involves threading a tube into their crop and using a syringe to put the food through the tube. It prevents them getting to attached to us as we are able to just feed them 3 feeds per day.

We saw a few other Pigeon squabs come into us, so Geraldine was not on her own for too long and we were able to wean her off human contact. Geraldine was released with her friends from one of our pre-release aviaries :)
