Woodpecker: Harrison & Hugh

This Great Spotted Woodpecker - Hugh - was a bit shocked after he flew into someones patio doors! We see this far too often throughout the

year. He came into us to allow him some time to regain himself in a quiet, peaceful environment out of harms way. In no time at all, he was back to his normal woodpecker self and ready to have another shot in the wild.

Harrison is a Green Woodpecker and came in a little worse for wear. He was refusing to eat or drink and had to be syringe fed by the vets before coming into us. We have heated him up in an incubator to encourage him to eat. We completely covered his cage so he won't do any more damage to himself by attempting to get out. Hopefully, hunger will get the better of him and he'll start to eat without us having to continue to syringe feed. We are hoping that he can regain his energy quickly so we can release him.

We released Hugh back to the garden he came from and he could not wait to get out of the carrier! The lovely people who lived there were happy to keep and eye out in case he ran into any more trouble over the next couple of weeks, but we are pretty sure he will be absolutely fine.

Harrison was a longer rehabilitation, but after a lot of time and rest he too was able to be released. We released him on site, so we could monitor him in an outside run prior to final release.
