Dani "Our Ultimate Coastal Runner" Blackie

Massive thanks to the Coastal Ultra Runner, the wonderful Dani Blackie.

She ran last year for the Save Me Trust and this year, she attempted another even longer run raising funds for Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue.  This run was once again no mean feat (excuse the pun)!

She attempted to run the 870 miles of the Wales Coastal Path in one hit to raise money for our rescue. Starting in Chester and working down to Chepstow.

Dani set-up her own fundraising link with all donations coming straight to us to help with purchasing vital veterinary equipment, link can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/danielle-blackie2

Unfortunately, after a week in Dani suffered from an extremely painful foot infection. After 275 miles and with a pack 17% of her body weight. It was a hard decision but Dani (with her best friends advice) decided it was time to call it a day.

Dani said: “It’s been an amazingly challenging week full of highs and lows and everything in between.  I am walking like a T-rex and I had to “customise” my hoka shoes to fit my feet. If the foot infection heals with the antibiotics, the shoes will still no longer fit them. The learning over the run has been immense, self-supported solo women’s running has it’s own challenges and logistics to navigate. It’s been a hair raising adventure at times.”

But fear not, Dani is a remarkable woman and does not give in that easy.  Her feet are recovering well with antibiotics and she is now looking for a fun dynamic support crew so she can have another crack at it for Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue in the Autumn of this Year.  To follow our lovely Dani, click here
